Smartphones have developed quickly over the years into strong, portable devices. Due to the convergence of technologies, cellphones can now do a wide range of daily functions, making many standalone devices obsolete. At a fraction of the cost, a typical smartphone can easily handle the functions of a music player, camera, watch, maps, GPS, video player, and, to some extent, even a computer. Is it possible to modify a smartphone so that it can also serve as a thermometer? is one frequently asked question. In this article, we investigate the possibility of using a smartphone as a thermometer.
How Will Smartphone Design Change in the Coming Decade?

Why don t modern smartphones have thermometers?
Even since cellphones are so technologically advanced, many people still question why they do not come with a digital thermometer. The basic solution is that it is nearly hard to obtain an accurate exterior reading from a smartphone due to its internal temperature. Some smartphones already come equipped with inbuilt thermometers that measure the device’s temperature. The smartphone is alerted to decrease its working till the temperature returns to normal once it exceeds a specified threshold.
A smartphone would need an external heat sensor that is unaffected by the heat the smartphone emits in any manner if it wanted to assess body temperature. An external sensor is not a part of the gadget because it would be an additional component with only one purpose. In order to fit the sensor, the smartphone’s design would also need to be altered. The majority of businesses believe the work needed to integrate a thermometer into a smartphone is greater than the potential reward.
Samsung did include a thermometer in the Galaxy S4 and Note 3, but customers did not seem to be particularly interested in the feature. First of all, the thermometer’s usage instructions were way too convoluted; they demanded that the phone be completely cooled off and that the hands’ heat not interfere with the thermometer’s reading. The temperature readings still weren’t quite accurate even after carefully following all the directions. In later models of the Note and Galaxy devices, Samsung abandoned the concept.

What about thermometer apps?
There are a number of thermometer apps in the Google Play Store that advertise accuracy in temperature readings. Since a smartphone lacks the necessary technology to serve as a thermometer, these apps are completely unreliable. We advise against using such apps since they might try to spread malware while seeming to be a thermometer app.
There are several digital thermometers that sync the reading from the external thermometer to your smartphone via a smartphone app. These temperature values can be saved to your phone so you can track them over time. Additionally, you can instantaneously share the readings from your smartphone with your doctor.
