One of the most frequently brought up concerns by those who rely on cloud storage is dealing with a Gmail storage crisis. Even Google, which offers free cloud storage, only provides a small amount of room for your stuff. Gmail has a 15 GB memory limit. It might seem like enough, but given how much we rely on the internet, you’ll probably start to feel the need for extra space soon. If you don’t want to spend money on more Gmail storage, the following advice will help you rapidly free up space.
1) Clean your Google Drive and Photos
Google provides all Gmail users with 15GB of free storage. Various Google services, including Google Drive and Photos, share this storage. For instance, if you upload 10GB of photographs to Drive and Photos, only 5GB will be available for Gmail. The quickest way to give Gmail additional space is to make space for Drive and Photos. If you can, erase any huge files from your Google Drive and Photos. This will make room for emails. Visit https://www.google.com/settings/storage to view your Google storage summary.
2) Find and delete big emails
Most of the emails you receive are brief—say, let’s 50 KB or less—in size. Nevertheless, some of them might be several MB large. It occurs as a result of the large attachments, such as data files, high-resolution photos, and movies. You can free up a lot of space in Gmail if you are certain that the attachments’ intended function has been achieved and you won’t need them in the future. Go to the search bar and type larger:50m to find the emails with huge attachments. If you require even more room, you might go for larger:25m or even larger:20m.
3) Find and delete ancient emails
With time, the emails in your inbox eventually lose their importance. Emails that are, say, four years old shouldn’t be kept. Similar to this, there is no use in saving casual emails you sent with friends when in high school or college. You may reclaim a lot of your Gmail storage by deleting these emails. Additionally, the account that had gathered emails that were no longer relevant will be cleaned out. Simply type older than:1y into the search field to find all of your previous emails. According to your preferences, you can change the year. You may quickly remove the outdated emails after you have a list of them.
4) Get rid of the updates, promotional emails, and spam
Your emails are organised in Gmail using categories like Primary, Social, and Promotions. Your crucial emails are kept on the Primary tab, one of these three tabs. Your social network profiles, accounts, promotional offers, and adverts are all listed on the other tabs. You receive these emails regularly, so over time you end up with a large number of them. Similar to this, your spam folder is filled with emails from websites you’ve blocked. You are free to get rid of them if you run out of room.
5) Plain Text and Quotes
Emails without any attachments still take less processing time than those that do. They do, however, add up to a substantial amount over time. They could start a space emergency if you don’t take care of them. By turning your emails to plain text or altering the default setting to quote every email you reply to, you can save a lot of space.
